Resume format for freshers
A fresher resume has one job: convince a stranger, in under thirty seconds, that you can do work you have not been paid to do yet. Everything on the page either serves that or takes space from something that would.
The format below is the one Indian recruiters expect. It is deliberately conventional, because a fresher resume gains nothing from being unusual and loses a great deal when a parser or a hurried reader cannot follow it.
Three rules carry most of the value. One page. Every claim attached to a number. Nothing on the page that a screener does not read, which rules out the photo, the declaration, the date of birth and the objective paragraph.
Section order
Top to bottom. The order matters more than the styling, because it decides what a reader sees in the first few seconds.
- HeaderName, phone, email, LinkedIn, GitHub or portfolio if relevant, city. Nothing else.
- SummaryOptional, two lines. Include only if the target role is not obvious from the rest.
- SkillsGrouped by category. High, because it is what the keyword screen reads.
- ProjectsYour substitute for experience. Two or three, each with an outcome.
- Internships / trainingAny supervised work, with what you did rather than what the team did.
- EducationDegree, marks on a stated scale, year. Then 12th and 10th on one line each.
- Achievements and responsibilitiesQuantified, or left off.
What has to be on the page
- A professional email address, which means some form of your name and nothing else.
- One page, in PDF, named with your own name rather than 'resume_final_2.pdf'.
- Numbers attached to claims wherever they honestly exist.
- Consistent tense: past for finished work, present only for what you are doing now.
- Contact details that are correct, which is worth checking twice because it is the most common fatal error.
Bullets in the right shape
Bracketed values are placeholders. Substitute your own real figures, and leave a line out entirely rather than inventing a number for it.
Built [project] using [stack]; used by [number] people and [measurable outcome].
Led a team of [number] to deliver [outcome] within [timeframe], improving [metric] from [X to Y].
Completed [certification] from [issuer] in [year], applying it to [specific piece of work].

Questions
What is the best resume format for freshers in India?
Reverse-chronological, one page, single column. Skills and projects above education if you are targeting a role on capability, education above them if a campus filter reads marks first. Avoid functional and combination formats; recruiters read them as concealment.
Should a fresher resume have a photo?
No. Indian recruiters do not screen on it, it invites bias, and for applications to the US, UK or Canada it can get the resume rejected on compliance grounds. The only exceptions are roles where appearance is genuinely part of the job.
How long should a fresher resume be?
One page. Without full-time experience there is not two pages of content anyone will read, and the discipline of cutting to one page improves what remains.
Is a declaration necessary on a resume?
No. It carries no legal weight, no recruiter looks for it, and it consumes space on a page where space is the scarce resource.
