Internship resume format

An internship resume is read against a lower bar than a job resume, and understanding that changes what you put on it. Nobody expects shipped production work from a second-year student. They are checking whether you will be useful within two weeks and pleasant to supervise.

That means coursework counts, enthusiasm counts, and a small self-directed project counts for a great deal because it shows you do things without being told to.

State your availability precisely. Internship hiring is scheduled around specific windows, and a resume that does not say when you are free creates work for the reader.

Section order

Top to bottom. The order matters more than the styling, because it decides what a reader sees in the first few seconds.

  1. HeaderName, phone, email, GitHub or portfolio, LinkedIn, city.
  2. AvailabilityOne line: the window and whether remote, on-site or either. Unusual, and worth it here.
  3. EducationHigh, with the current year and expected graduation stated.
  4. SkillsHonest about level. 'Learning' is an acceptable label on an internship resume.
  5. ProjectsCoursework and personal projects, both legitimate.
  6. CourseworkRelevant subjects only, and only if the projects section is thin.
  7. ActivitiesClubs, competitions, anything showing initiative.

Do thisPut it in the top third. Internship coordinators schedule around it and will not chase you for it.
Instead ofOnly assigned coursework in the projects section.
Do thisAdd one thing nobody made you do. It is the clearest available signal of initiative.

Questions

What should a second-year student put on an internship resume?

Current year and expected graduation, honest skills, coursework projects, at least one self-directed project, and any competition or club activity. Availability window in the top third. Coursework is legitimate content at this stage.

Is a one-page internship resume enough?

Yes, and more than enough. Internship resumes are the easiest category to keep to one page because there is genuinely less to say, and stretching it is obvious to the reader.
